BAPHOMET – Realtime Character & Creature

This character was created for my "Character for Games" class at Gnomon, taught by Tyler Young. The course spanned ten weeks, during which I developed a real-time, game-ready character through the entire production pipeline. I further expanded on this project the following semester, adding an additional character to enhance the narrative, and completing it for the "Visual Structure & Narrative" course with Jax Jocson. The entire project took around three months to complete, with the original concept by Jian Li https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oOLm5q and facial reference inspired by Chris Hemsworth. The final render was produced in Unreal Engine.

I've always loved the design of Mimir from God of War and was really excited to incorporate my own ideas while drawing inspiration from that design.

This was an exciting experience for me, working in Unreal with XGen hair, as this was something previously only achievable with hair cards

I aimed to keep the tone of the original concept while enhancing the layout to draw the viewer deeper into the character.

The Baphomet character is inspired by a reference from Maximovich Ekaterina, which I followed loosely while retaining some key elements that I really wanted to keep.

Since the reference's biggest icon is the ram logo and the creature on its back, I wanted to push that Idea further by incorporating goat-like elements into the armor, leather, and weapons.

For my ram skull design, I drew primary inspiration from the artwork "Mephisto Herald of Hatred" by Jamir Blanco.

The main character's reference is Chris Hemsworth. The original concept reminded me of him from Thor, so I became attached to his likeness for the design
